Studio Review: Move and Be Barre

Move and Be Barre in Geelong West has been up and running for about 2 months now, so I thought it might be time to share my thoughts with you on this little studio.

Move and Be is a little tricky to find at first and I'm told difficult to find a park near, although that isn't an issue for me as I usually walk places.

The studio itself is very well set up, with spaces for storing belongings, access to water, a bright studio space and a small kitchenette and toilet. It has been decorated simply with a very natural vibe - I particularly like the indoor plants and the wooden sign above the front desk.

The studio is run by Mikayla Thomas, who also teacher a majority of the classes. Mikayla is a brilliant teacher who manages to make a difficult workout seem like a lot of fun and who can work with the students who show up to the class to create a class that suits their fitness levels as well as pushing them to improve. She has a bright bubbly personality and makes the studio seem all the more personal by learning each of her students by name. She is incredibly fit as well as very observant as she both participates in the her classes and gives corrections and adjustments to her student's bodies, although she could work to do this more.

The classes themselves are very well thought out and are different every lesson while also seeming familiar. However, it is sometimes difficult to see a distinct difference between some of the different types of classes. The Barre Balance and Barre Foundation classes for example seem very similar, although I do like them a lot.

Other teachers at the studio include Jo Dickens, another bubbly personality who can make a workout seem like fun. Jo has a different style to Mikayla as her classes do not hold the music as a central point. In my opinion, I prefer Mikayla's style that involves working with the music as it feels more natural and indeed more fun.

Overall I have had a good feeling about this studio ever since I stepped in the front doors on the first day they opened! Hat's off to Mikayla for creating what I'm sure will develop to be a very successful business with a wonderful Barre community.

Namaste x
